The 2006 Ampol Trial Rerun
With the 50th anniversary of the ’56 Ampol Trial in 2006, the Peugeot
Car Club of Victoria will be celebrating the 403 victory and the 50 years
since the first of the 5 Ampol Trials held between 1956 and 1970.
The club will organise a Touring Road Event that will follow an original
(1958) Ampol Route. It will start in Sydney and travel via Brisbane, Bundaberg,
Roma, Toowoomba, Armidale, Bathurst, Coonabarabran, Hillston, Wagga Wagga,
Albury, Echuca, Bendigo, Horsham, Mildura, Whyalla, Adelaide, Mount Gambier,
Port Campbell, Camperdown, Geelong, Melbourne, Lakes Entrance, Canberra
and then back to Sydney.
The event will be similar in format to the highly successful 2003 Redex
Rerun and will be made up of touring interspersed with sub events. The
sub events will consist of Hillclimbs, Autocrosses, Motorkhanas, a variety
of Road Events, etc.
The event will be run between April 23rd and May 21st,
2006 for 4 weeks. The entry fee is $2300, great value when you consider
that the event runs for 4 weeks and through 4 states and the ACT. A $600
(non refundable) deposit needs to be remitted along with the nomination
form.
We will limit the entries to 80, to ensure that we can fit the competitive
events into the running schedule, given we have to travel a fair distance
each day along with the other activities.
However, we will be accepting 20 extra cars who won’t be eligible
to compete in the sub events. These entries will still be scored on the
touring sections and booked in and out of the daily controls. The entry
fee will be lower at $1000 and a $400 (non refundable) deposit is required
with their “Touring Event” nomination.
The overall aim of the event is to have a good time, something we achieved
in 2003, and we see no reason why 2006 won’t be as successful in
this regard.
We look forward to seeing you in 2006! |
